2 weeks itinerary of Laos
😎 Day 1
The best way to reach Laos, in my opinion, is from Thailand. This adventure was truly memorable. I would recommend the following:
Book a 2-day trip along the Mekong River. I strongly suggest booking a tour because it allows for easier transportation changes and typically doesn't cost much more.
You'll start early at 4 am from Chiang Rai and reach the border to begin your journey. At the border, you will need some cash to pay for the visa and a photo.
The first day involves about 6 hours of boat travel, bringing you to 📍Pak Beng for the night.
This small village has plenty of good places to eat and drink, and the hotels offer a lovely view of the mountains and river.
😎 Day 2
In the morning, you'll get back on the boat. Remember to bring food since they only have drinks for sale. But no worries, they do have beer.
The boat ride will be enjoyable; you'll meet new people, play cards, sing songs, and share your travel stories.
By about 4 pm, you'll reach 📍Luang Prabang.
For dinner, don't miss the Luang Prabang night market.
😎 Day 3
Early in the morning, see the alms-giving ceremony. It's worth asking at your accommodation when it starts exactly.
Then, spend the day discovering the city. Visit temples such as Wat Xieng Thong and Wat Mai.
Check out some restaurants near the river. Today is all about relaxation.
For sunset go up 📍Mount Phousi for a beautiful view of the city. Bring some cash, as there is an entrance fee.
😎 Day 4
Kick off your morning with a tasty breakfast at your favorite local spot or your accommodation. Then, it’s decision time: rent a motorbike for an exhilarating ride to Kuang Si Falls or join a fun tour for a laid-back experience.
When you arrive at the falls, get ready to be amazed! Explore the area, hike up to the upper falls, and enjoy the beautiful views. Don’t forget your swimsuit—jump into the clear pools for a refreshing swim!
For lunch, you can eat at a nearby spot or pack a picnic to enjoy by the water.
After your adventure, head back to your place to relax and freshen up.
😎 Day 5
Take a bus or shared minivan to 📍Nong Khiaw, a picturesque village surrounded by stunning limestone mountains. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation and get ready for an adventure. Lace up your hiking boots and explore the trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints like the Nong Khiaw Viewpoint, where you can see the Nam Ou River winding through the valleys.
After your hike, cool off with a refreshing swim in the river. As the day winds down, find a good spot to admire the sunset over the mountains, creating a perfect ending to your day.
😎 Day 6
Start your day by visiting the📍Tham Pha Thok Cave, known for its impressive formations and historical significance. Spend some time exploring the cave's chambers and learning about its importance during the Laotian Civil War.
Afterward, venture into nearby villages like Muang Ngoi Neua, where you can enjoy the scenic beauty and interact with locals. In the afternoon, go on an exciting trek to the 100 Waterfalls, located just outside Nong Khiaw.
😎 Day 7
Take a bus or shared minivan to 📍Vang Vieng, a vibrant town known for its stunning landscapes and adventure activities.
Vang Vieng offers plenty to do. Consider staying for at least 3-4 days to truly experience the area’s natural beauty and adventure sports, including tubing, kayaking, and rock climbing.
😎 Day 8
Visit 📍Nam Xay viewpoint, Wear sturdy shoes, as the trail can be steep and rocky. The hike takes about an hour, but the panoramic view at the top is incredibly rewarding.
